The Australian Federal Government recently delivered its 2020-21 budget. As part of this budget, the Government is lowering personal income tax, which has been brought forward to 2020, as well as a one-off additional benefit from the low and middle income tax offset in 2020–21. These tax cuts form part of the Governments Covid-19 response. Further information regarding the tax cuts can be found in the Budget 2020-21 Fact Sheet.

After confirmation in the Australian Parliament that the Treasury Laws Amendment (A Tax Plan For The Covid-19 Economic Recovery) Bill 2020 has bipartisan support, the ATO has Updated tax withholding schedules.

The ATO has published Tax Schedules at ato.gov.au/taxtables.

Employers will need to make adjustments in their payroll processes and systems in order for the tax cuts to be reflected in people’s take home pay.

Importantly, once live, each business will be responsible to review and update its Employee Tax Rates accordingly in Jobpac Connect. The How do I Update the Employee Tax Rates – AU explains the required steps.
